The is the web log for Jon Ryan - the personality behind the hardly listened to and barely worthwhile Jon Ryan Radio Show, heard from the months of September through May on WPRB in Princeton, New Jersey and the surrounding area.

R.I.P. Eddie...

Eddie Guerrero died Sunday morning at the age of 38.

Say what you want, but I have nothing but the utmost respect for any man that can bring 10,000 people to their feet night in and night out.

Here's a link to the lyrics for today's Sing-Along. It's going to be retro-tastic!

Oct. 12 Pre-Show Notes

Forgive the absence of posts lately, as things have been a little hectic on the homefront:

On the show today:

  • We'll continue the tradition of opening with some goofy song.
  • I'll probably yell about iPods some more (and talk about whatever Apple revealed at their little conference today).
  • Some sort of fun background music.
  • ConCal at 3:30
  • Sing-Along at 4:00

As always, email to wprbjon@hotmail.com, IM to wprbdj during the show and jbrpu following the show.

Playlist and Show Notes to follow.

Slightly Edited...

"The difference between someone who really appreciates [music] and a [music] snob is that someone who really appreciates [music] will learn, understand and accept a wide range to the exclusion of nothing. Someone that learns and then uses their knowledge to exclude other things I see as a snob. Okay, if you don't like [Avril Lavigne] don't [listen to Avril Lavigne], but don't not [listen to Avril Lavigne] because it's [she's not a] hoity-toity [indie grrl]...

"When I want to [listen to] complex [music] with a [deep, dissonant sound] that's finely crafted, I'm not [listening to Avril Lavigne]. You know what, I'd rather [listen to Avril Lavigne than Cierra] for God sakes! I know that after mowing the lawn on a Sunday afternoon that [Avril sound better than Lightning Bolt], [she sounds] better than [Xiu Xiu], [she sounds] better than [The Pixies], [she sounds] better than a [At the Drive In], [she sounds] better than any of a hundred different regional [indie bands] I can name... All of which I like... But I really just want something kind of [fun]-like, you know (laughs)."

Success?!

Wow.

Yesterday saw the most visitors to WPRB.com in a 24-hour period since January of this year. Whether or not I had anything to do with that is infinitely unclear, but, since I am who I am, I'll take credit for it an demand an immediate restructuring of my contract.

In related news, 2-5 PM remain WPRB.com's "primetime."

Again, all of this stuff might just be a series of statistical anomalies... But we'll see next week, I suppose.

Thanks to all that listened in. We've got more goodies coming your way...

The first show of the new season...

... is in the books.

A fun little two hours was had on WPRB today. Unfortunately, the playlist for the show got lost on the intarweb somewhere, but truncated show notes include the following bullet points:

*Show opened with Vanilla Ice's Ninja Rap from TMNT II, leading into the standard strains of OLP's Whatever.

*Background music for talkey time was old tv themes.

*New stuff from Xiu Xiu is decent, but hit and miss.

*Sing-along this week was The Rubber Duckey Song from Sesame Street, which was apparently pretty well recieved from the 1 or 2 people that were listening.

More later. It's nice to be back home at the ol' 'PRB.

Provoking the Listener...

I'll be on the air for some of Jay Barnes' final Provoke the Listener of the season tonight from 6-7 PM. Listen live at www.wprb.com or at 103.3 FM if you're in the Philadelphia / Trenton / Newark area.

I'll have the playlist and show notes from the sub show I did up some time this week.

10 Days until the premiere of the brand new, slimmer Jon Ryan Radio Show.
