Eddie Guerrero died Sunday morning at the age of 38.

Say what you want, but I have nothing but the utmost respect for any man that can bring 10,000 people to their feet night in and night out.

Wow.

Yesterday saw the most visitors to WPRB.com in a 24-hour period since January of this year. Whether or not I had anything to do with that is infinitely unclear, but, since I am who I am, I'll take credit for it an demand an immediate restructuring of my contract.

In related news, 2-5 PM remain WPRB.com's "primetime."

Again, all of this stuff might just be a series of statistical anomalies... But we'll see next week, I suppose.

The first show of the new season...

... is in the books.

A fun little two hours was had on WPRB today. Unfortunately, the playlist for the show got lost on the intarweb somewhere, but truncated show notes include the following bullet points:

*Show opened with Vanilla Ice's Ninja Rap from TMNT II, leading into the standard strains of OLP's Whatever.

*Background music for talkey time was old tv themes.

*New stuff from Xiu Xiu is decent, but hit and miss.

*Sing-along this week was The Rubber Duckey Song from Sesame Street, which was apparently pretty well recieved from the 1 or 2 people that were listening.

More later. It's nice to be back home at the ol' 'PRB.

Back from Brown U., where I spent the summer studying and meeting some of the most fantastic people in the world. That's right. In the world. Awesomeness.

The next few weeks will be spent gearing up for a return to Princeton and the wonderful throes of ecstasy that is WPRB. Yeah, I'll have a show once again this fall. Right now, the plan is to just do whatever I can do to fill 3 hours without dedicating too much of the show to music. So, of course, I'm going to lie to whoever the satanic program director is and tell them I'll be playing 3 hours of Joanna Newsome or some other comparable shit every week. Here's the way I'm rationalizing it currently: WPRB plays nonformat (re: random and sporadically better than average) music for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Therefore, shouldn't there be some kind of show that, in addition to featuring (less sporadically better than average) music, also talks a bit about society, culture, the music scene, etc? I'm not talking about anything radically different than what I've done in the past... Just something with a bit more structure. I hope.

So, I'm drudging the net, trying to find interesting things / people to put on the show. Ideally, I'll have an e-list, underground culturally relevant person on the show now and then, people talking politics who actually know politics, some humorous folks on to talk shit about the world in general, and way more caller interaction. Who knows, though... The whole thing could get collectively shat on by those above me and I could get stuck with an awesomely horrendous timeslot, thus eliminating any kind of possibility of developing a listenership or any sort of decent programming. Hoorah.

In the meantime, if you haven't already, check out Muse. They're fucking good, and I don't know why I haven't heard of them before.

Oh, and R.I.P. Peter Jennings. He was always the poor-man's Brokaw, but at least people respected him, unlike Rather... Rather... that incompetent fuck. Why didn't the big man off him first?

Alright boys and girls, here's the deal:

The Jon Ryan Radio Show will make its debut in webcast only form at some point next week. The reason for the ambiguous timing rests in the fact that the procurement of my internet connection at Duke is still up in the air. All the hardware works. All the software works. I'm just waiting to get on campus and get the yellow light... The things will be rolling.

I am going to leave a 24/7 stream up during "non-show" times. That is, there will always be music pouring off of my internet streams along with intermingling past episodes of the WPRB-version of the Jon Ryan Radio Show. At some point in time that stream will go live. When that happens I'll leave a note on the ol'' blog here and then post the schedule for the upcoming shows. Chances are I will do 30-60 minutes a day with some big long stuff thrown in here and there.

Your job at this point is to promote the damn thing. Every time you are accosted in the street by a panhandler smelling of gin and tin cans asking when and where he can here Jon Ryan again, just point him in the direction of this here blog.

Is Anybody Home?

Well, I've decided to go ahead and create one of these homorific weblogs. Some words before I get into this thing, though:

1) I am not an emo kid. I do not wear the glasses. I am not skinny. I am not cute. I don't think the Postal Service is the best band ever, and I would rather put three nails in my scrotum than listen to Yellowcard for any extended period of time. Oh, and just so the indie emo boys and girls don't feel left out: Bright Eyes and Blood Brothers suck too. There. Deal with it.

2) I am using this weblog - mostly - for the sole purpose of promoting my webcast only radio show. For those of you just joining us, I broadcast nine months out of the year on WPRB in Princeton, New Jersey. However, since I can spend the summers there, I can decided to set up a shoutcast broadcast. Ideally, this thing (the weblog, that is) will hold all sorts of gilded information for you kiddies, like show schedules, playlists, live times etc.

3) I will never, under any circumstances, post a message like "Oh, Sherry, you really got me good that time," or "God damn it am I mad at you, Hot Karl. I can't believe you did that!" Weblogs that are even remotely personal are the most desperate cries for attention this side of plastic surgery and Daisy Dukes. If you want to read that sophomoric bullshit, go check out hurtboy86 or h8edone90 or some fluffy crap like that.

I suppose that is all for now.
